Tutorial: Newsprint Nails

I've seen this look done before but it seems like it's gaining popularity right now (based on pinterest) so I thought I'd do a tutorial. This is a really easy thing to do and it doesn't take long either. Not one of my very favorite looks but, as I said it seems to be gaining popularity right now so I thought I'd share how it's done for those of you who want to learn how to do it.

Supplies you will need:

Base and Top coats
White nail polish - this is most commonly done with cremes in a variety of shades of white however I have done this tutorial with a shimmery white polish (Misa Sugar Daddy, 2 coats)
News paper - clip small sections of text. Since the letters will appear backwards on your nails, it really doesn't matter what they say, just clip pieces big enough to cover your nails.
Rubbing alcohol - I've heard you can also use vodka but I've never tried that one so don't take my word for it
A small container to pour the rubbing alcohol in so it's deep enough to dip your fingers in and completely cover your nails

Prep your nails as normal and apply your base coat and white polish. Let your nails dry completely.

Once your nails are completely dry, pour some of the rubbing alcohol into a small, deep container. Working with just one finger at a time, dip your nails into the rubbing alcohol. You don't have to let them soak, just a quick dip will do.

Then place your newspaper clipping on top of your wet nail. Make sure you have the lettering facing the way you want it to aeppear on your nails (horizontally, vertically or diagonally.) Gently but firmly press the paper on your nail for a couple seconds. Dip another finger into the alcohol and dab it on the paper if necessary, the paper should be wet. Be careful not to move the paper, and only dab at it do not rub. (Rubbing will cause smearing.) Don't worry about the text on the opposite side of the paper leaking through - it won't. Only the text from the side that is touching your nail will transfer. Then peel the paper away, discard it and move on to the next nail. Any newsprint left on your fingers can be cleaned up with a q-tip dipped in nail polish remover. (Or just wait till your nails are totally dry after applying top coat and wash your hands to get rid of the newsprint. Whatever floats your boat.)

Once all your nails are done, apply top coat to seal.

Simple as that.
